The way I do anything is the way I do everything. If I can believe that this is true, then I can take the next step and know that by changing the way I do anything I can change the way I do everything. So how do you want to do everything? Make one small step toward that in anything you do.

Below are our playlists for the week. If you’d like to listen to the music, you can find almost all the songs on Spotify (you can listen for free)! As always, please let me know if you have any questions about any of the music we dance to!

And friends, I am always ALWAYS looking for new music. Do you have a song that you love to move to or that moves you? I’d love to know what it is! Please respond in the comments below or email me at sjmnia@gmail.com!

Before the playlists, here is the scoop on a whole slew of great things happening this summer!

Saturday July 27, 9-12noon – Moving & Writing with Light: Nourishing Body & Eyes with Susan & Rebecca
Susan & Rebecca offer a morning to expand your perspective on two things that everybody has: a body and a smartphone. The word “photography” means “writing with light.” A photo isn’t a copy of something— it’s a story written *by light*! And light is weaving stories all around us, all the time. Using the simple cameras that we all carry —the ones in our phones! — we’ll play with the stories of light around us and experience how changing our perspectives can change everything. Susan will weave movement and mindfulness into the morning to practice being with light & shadow. No experience in photography or movement needed, just bring a phone or tablet with a built-in camera and your body. If you like, from 12-2pm, bring a lunch and savor it on the porch, on the bench overlooking the river or on a rock in the middle of it. Bring water shoes and you could even sit in the water. $75. Register at http://www.susanmcculley.com/shop.

Join The Studio at Dancing Water Email List!
Get all the news about experiences at The Studio at Dancing Water, special offers and discounts and all the details about what’s happening! Please go here and note “Dancing Water” in the subject line (and any other note you’d like to leave)! Thank you for being part of nourishing movement in the trees by the river.

spwing has spwung 031716
Every spring, my dad would come down to breakfast and recite his favorite spring poem:

Spwing has spwung!
The gwass has wiz!
I wonder where
The birdies is!

Very high brow, my family. But all week, I’ve found the poem running in my head as we played with the focus of Begin Again and the routines, Sense You All and Firedance and our Renewal Spring Nia Jam.

You can find all playlists below and if you want to listen to them (and of course you do) just to go to Spotify! You can listen for free at Spotify! Sign up for free, follow me at “susanmcculley” and you’ll find my public playlists ~ just click and listen!

Below are the playlists for the week, but first here are some announcey-type things you want to know about:

• Downtown Morning Nia on Tue, Apr 5 AND Thu, Apr 7
ACAC is refinishing the floor in the Downtown Group Ex Studio during the first week of April. Weather permitting, I will teach on the rooftop deck on Tuesday, April 5 and Thursday, April 7, both days at 840-940am. Due to the somewhat rougher surface of the deck, we recommend wearing light shoes for these classes. Classes normally taught in Studio A will be held as usual during this time!

• Earth Day, Friday, April 22, 545-7pm, acac downtown ~ Group Ex Studio
Susan & Mary Linn are teaming up for a special class celebrating our big mama, Earth. Join us for a playful exploration of how the elements of earth, wind, water and fire manifest in movement and in our bodies.

• dance. sit. write. draw. returns! Saturday, May 7, 830am-5pm
Living life as an artist isn’t a path for some rarified few, it’s our birthright. All of us. You might have lots of experience with dancing, meditating, writing, and drawing. Or you might have none. Spending the day blending these practices is a way of opening the channel of your artist self ~ giving it some oxygen and space no matter what your experience is. Join us for a delicious day. Go to susanmcculley.com/workshops for the details and to register. Or email sjmnia@gmail.com with questions.

As always, please let me know if you have questions or how I can help more.
Dance on. Shine on.

savoring living meditation michael grabEvery moment offers the opportunity for savoring. And at its core, savoring is an act of living meditation.

Some people make living meditation their art, like Michael Grab. But everybody can choose to be alive and awake to whatever is happening right now.

Here’s the music from a delicious week of Firedance and birthdays.

Dance on. Shine on.

spring-snowWhat a week! From St. Patrick’s Day Snow Out on Monday, to 70 degrees today! I so appreciated all your feedback about your own interim time, and how you’re showing up and trusting. Way to go. I also loved, of course, all the showing up and trusting we did on the dance floor, too. Oh yes.

Below are the playlists for the week for your listening pleasure.

And for your reading pleasure, please go to Elephant Journal (send your friends, too) and check out my article that was published there this week http://www.elephantjournal.com/2014/03/in-pain-grateful-susan-mcculley/ ! Together, we can create a mindful movement that encourages people to be happier and healthier by thinking, moving, and living with awareness! I am deeply grateful for all the support and encouragement.

resistance we are all artists nowWho knew that the resistance could be so much fun?  Nice to know that those uncomfortable feelings just mean we’re on the right track.

So, for our video selections this week, first, the Song of the Week (a.k.a. A Private Gathering of the Silly Creatures, and quite possibly the best music video I’ve seen all year), Do It Anyway by Ben Folds Five. (In another life, I will play piano like this and get to dance with Fraggles.)

A lovely accoustic version of Lyle Lovett’s You Can’t Resist It — complete with cello!  Mmm-hmm.

And, Switchfoot’s This Is Your Life — a song that I got from my mentor, teacher and friend, Helen Terry.

This week, a happy, belated, Firedance birthday to John and a welcome to Charlottesville Nia to my longest Portlandia friend, Zan!

Next week, I’ll be away — hiking in the mountains. All my ACAC classes, including on July 4 will be covered by the amazing Nia Team, so check the ACAC Schedule page for the details. Happy 4th and I’ll see you the following week.

EnJOY, every-body!
xoxo
Susan
