Tension is different than tightness. While tight places come from exertion or some action, tension comes from long-held patterns of gripping and clenching. Those patterns can come from physical habits but they can also come from mental and emotional habits. When we are in a constant state of bracing against and holding it together, tension gathers.

Today’s simple restorative yoga series focuses on the sensation of embrace to release the brace. Using props from around the house to offer your body support, the bracing can unwind itself. Find the video here.

Props for the Practice
• carpet ~ yoga mat ~ blanket (or all three!)
• 3 firm pillows
• 2 towels
• 1 blanket
• eye covering (optional)
• tea or water (optional)
• cat companion (optional but recommended)
