The world is shifting. My world. Your world. All of it. As it always is, it’s unclear what will stay and what will burn away, what will crumble and what will stand. As I it shifts, I want to move with it and make space for what needs to happen. I am, then, shifting my online teaching schedule from seven classes a week to four: Nourishing Movement on Mondays, Dharma Dance or All Out All You Movement Parties on Fridays, and Restorative Yoga on Wednesdays and Sundays (Minimal Props and Nesting Props, respectively). For my own health and energy and for the space to allow change to happen, let’s keep moving together while we are apart.

Nothing but uncertainty is certain. Circumstances come together only to fall apart moments or months later and then in a flash we must rise up and regain our footing. In the rear view mirror I see so clearly what escaped me then. It’s not that the ground underneath me was suddenly shifting. It’s that the ground underneath us is never still. Living as we do, in human bodies on this planet, it makes sense that we love the feel of solid ground under us. Every step we take every day confirms the importance of our connection to solidity. It’s no wonder, then, that our minds also gravitate toward the idea of solidity. As Alicia Keys points out, though, true growth and freedom only come when we realize that the ground underneath us is never still.

In today’s Dharma Dance practice, we’ll blend the experiences of Body as Student and Body as Teacher to feel movement in groundlessness. The Body as Student section offers guided patterns that you might not normally choose with the intention of breaking your mind’s attachment to the way it thinks things will be. The Body as Teacher section offers the uncertainty of surfing the sensation, the sound and the space without knowing exactly what to do or what will happen. Both parts of the practice expand our comfort with the ever-present groundlessness of life. Find the video here.
