Dancing Water Practices ~ Jul 27, 2020 ~ Stop & Rest

Everything alive needs to rest. To recuperate. To reconnect and restore.

Yet somehow – have you noticed this? – our culture is quick to encourage us to leave that part out and rush to the doing part. Get ‘er done. Cross it off and add more to the list.

I catch myself skipping restoration all the time. All of a sudden, I’m back to hell-bent, full-on action mode. I am often found scrambling on the gerbil wheel of life.

Now I’m making a choice to stop and get out of the spin – at least for a while, until I know where I want that wheel to roll.

Starting today, I’m taking a mindful pause from teaching and creating classes. I need to stop, rest, reorient and reflect.

I have some ideas. Some tender shoots of notions that might go somewhere and might not. I’ve got music I want to listen to and experiences I want to explore. I have art I want to make and books I want to read and things I want to learn – and I need space to let that all marinate.

I may do some “pop-up” classes and videos and drop in with whatever I’m playing with. When I do, you can find out about it by signing up for my newsletter.

In the meantime, there are more than 100 classes on my YouTube Channel  that you can access whenever and wherever you are. Please continue to use, comment on and share them. (And if you’d like the link to my Voice of the World class – with music from AfroCelt Sound System and 1 Giant Leap – that I taught last week, pop me an email (sjmnia@gmail.com) and I’ll send you the special private link!)

I’m still here. I truly love to hear from you. If you haven’t already, please take the survey (below) and then reach out and tell me where in your life you need to stop, rest and reflect.

I’d love to hear where you’re getting off the gerbil wheel.

~~~ Help Guide Dancing Water Online Offerings ~~~ Please take a Survey! ~~~
It’s been a wild few months at Dancing Water (well, everywhere). In mid-March I dove into creating online classes ~ learning the technology, figuring out the music, getting them out into the world. My YouTube Channel is now home to more than 100 classes in 5 different categories that are available to anyone who needs them ~ no matter where they are and no matter what their circumstances. I am so grateful for all the support, donations, energy and love from all of you.
What began as a short-term situation, however, has stretched longer than I imagined. And (depending on what news you read) it looks like there is no end in sight.
So I’m taking some time to reorient and reflect. If you’ll indulge me, I’m asking for your help. Would you please take this survey about what we’ve created so far together?
It’s just 10 questions and will take you less than 5 minutes. Your responses will be invaluable as I make decisions about what my professional offerings look like from here. You can find the survey here.
Thank you for helping to guide and grow the Dancing Water Community!
I will miss the daily interactions with you but trust that there is much more of that to come. Even while I’m taking a break, I read and respond to every single comment and email and I appreciate them all. Please do reach out with email (sjmnia@gmail.com) or a comment and let me know what is happening for you, how you are stopping and resting and what you are dreaming about!
Breathe deep. Shine bright. Show up.
