Sun, Jun 21, 2020 ~ Dancing Water Practice ~ Moon River Restorative Yoga (Nesting Props): Paradox & Contradiction

The world is shifting. My world. Your world. All of it. As always, it’s unclear what will stay and what will burn away, what will crumble and what will stand. As it shifts, I want to move with it and make space for what needs to happen. I am, then, shifting my online teaching schedule from seven classes a week to four: Nourishing Movement on Mondays, Dharma Dance or All Out All You Movement Parties on Fridays, and Restorative Yoga on Wednesdays and Sundays (Minimal Props and Nesting Props, respectively). For my own health and energy and for the space to allow change to happen, let’s keep moving together while we are apart.

Paradox is happening in our bodies all the time if we notice. Restorative yoga is a practice of expanding our awareness, our attention’s peripheral vision, if you will. Today’s restorative nesting practice invites us to broaden into the fullness of living in a human body: relaxed and aware, heavy and light, folded and extended, sinking and floating. By feeling these apparently oppositional experiences, we can also expand what we hold in our minds and hearts.

Adrift
Everything is beautiful and I am so sad.
This is how the heart makes a duet of
wonder and grief. The light spraying
through the lace of the fern is as delicate
as the fibers of memory forming their web
around the knot in my throat. The breeze
makes the birds move from branch to branch
as this ache makes me look for those I’ve lost
in the next room, in the next song, in the laugh
of the next stranger. In the very center, under
it all, what we have that no one can take
away and all that we’ve lost face each other.
It is there that I’m adrift, feeling punctured
by a holiness that exists inside everything.

~ 2 towels
~ 1 blanket
~ eye covering
