Wed, Jun 17, 2020 ~ Dancing Water Practice ~ Moon River Restorative Yoga: Paradox & Contradiction (Minimal Props)

The world is shifting. My world. Your world. All of it. As always, it’s unclear what will stay and what will burn away, what will crumble and what will stand. As it shifts, I want to move with it and make space for what needs to happen. I am, then, shifting my online teaching schedule from seven classes a week to four: Nourishing Movement on Mondays, Dharma Dance or All Out All You Movement Parties on Fridays, and Restorative Yoga on Wednesdays and Sundays (Minimal Props and Nesting Props, respectively). For my own health and energy and for the space to allow change to happen, let’s keep moving together while we are apart.

Under heaven all can see beauty as beauty,
only because there is ugliness.
All can know good as good only because there is evil.
Being and nonbeing produce each other.
The difficult is born in the easy.
Long is defined by short, the high by the low.
Before and after go along with each other.
~ Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

There is ancient wisdom in paradox and contradiction. The two experiences, while similar, provide two different kinds of insight and healing.

Paradox allows us to expand our understanding to encompass experiences that seem in opposition. Paradox is what allows us to be both fierce and kind, both grounded and spacious, both strong and flexible. In restorative yoga, paradox allows us to both float and sink.

Contradiction often hides beneath the surface but when perceived, it reveals something that is out of alignment, something that needs attention. Contradiction allows us to make choices that orient us more clearly with what matters to us most. In restorative yoga, contradiction gives us the chance to see what parts are gripping and needing release.

In today’s Moon River Restorative Yoga practice, we’ll use minimal props to unfurl the body in diagonal lines and spirals so we can embody both paradox and contradiction and see what we can learn. Find the video here.

Minimal Props for the Practice:
~ carpet ~ yoga mat ~ blanket
~ 2 towels
~ eye covering or small pillow/towel

I finally managed to bookmark your YouTube site (a small triumph in my day!) and this morning did the dance from March 28th. No mic, but that was OK. I could easily follow your visual signs for changes in the routine. Your bright pink top was perfect for this glooooomy day…

    • Genius! This is exactly how I hope folks will use the channel! Have it handy, then browse around for what works for you today! You are not the only one to choose based on the outfit! Thank you, Lynn! I’m so glad we’re moving together. ❤
