Mon, Jun 15, 2020 ~ Dancing Water Practice ~ Nourishing Movement: Paradox & Contradiction

The world is shifting. My world. Your world. All of it. As always, it’s unclear what will stay and what will burn away, what will crumble and what will stand. As it shifts, I want to move with it and make space for what needs to happen. I am, then, shifting my online teaching schedule from seven classes a week to four: Nourishing Movement on Mondays, Dharma Dance or All Out All You Movement Parties on Fridays, and Restorative Yoga on Wednesdays and Sundays (Minimal Props and Nesting Props, respectively). For my own health and energy and for the space to allow change to happen, let’s keep moving together while we are apart.

“Oddly enough, the paradox is one of our most valuable spiritual possessions…only the paradox comes anywhere near to comprehending the fullness of life.” Carl Jung

A paradox is both perplexing and powerful. It is defined as “a seemingly absurd or self-contradictory statement or proposition that when investigated or explained may prove to be well founded or true.” When I hear one, a paradox lands first in my head as confusion and then into my bones as truth.

Contradiction is an opposition within a system whether an organization, a culture or a person. A contradiction is its own kind of truth: the truth that there is a misalignment that needs attention. Whether it’s shoulders out of alignment with the spine or choices out of alignment with values, contradictions are chances to choose something different.

The body itself is full of paradoxes: push down to rise, push left to go right, shake up to settle down. EveryBODY also contains contradictions: places that are out of alignment that create discomfort, injury or illness. In today’s Nourishing Movement practice, we’ll look and feel for paradoxes and allow for the confusing truth of them. And we’ll look and feel for contradictions and see if we can move them into a more true alignment. Please find the video here.
