It’s estimated that we have between 50,000-80,000 thoughts a day. For better or worse, most of us get tangled up in our thinking. We tend to believe what comes across our minds and get pushed and pulled by a lot of it.
Hummingbird Thoughts are the darting, zipping, flitting mind flight that scatter my attention. Buddhists often call distracted thinking Monkey Mind but my favorite description of distraction is the mind behaving like a Drunken Monkey Being Stung by a Scorpion. Often, distracted thinking is a way for the mind to allow us to avoid something uncomfortable: a task or something I don’t want to do or something I don’t want to feel…or both.
The more we drop deep into physical sensation, the more our flying, screaming hummingbird monkey thoughts quiet so we can focus on what needs attention. Find the video here.
