Thu, May 7, 2020 ~ Dancing Water Daily ~ Dharma Dance: Overwhelm is a Habit

What feels overwhelming? When do you feel overwhelmed? It happens to me when I have too much to do or there is too much to process or too much to feel. Lately, I am well-acquainted with the sensation of overwhelm.

But what if, as meditation teacher Caroline Stewart suggests, overwhelm is a habit?

At some point in my life, overwhelm served a purpose. At some point, overwhelm protected me from exposure or criticism or acting rashly. But over time, overwhelm became a habit. I’m ready to find new ways of moving through the “too much” sensations of overwhelm.

Today’s Dancing Water Daily practice is Dharma Dance: a blend of guided movement intended to break habitual movement patterns that I call Body as Student and unguided movement that I call Body as Teacher in which we get out of the body’s way and let it lead. Together, let’s play with the often-awkward experience of breaking habit and then navigating overwhelm skillfully. Find the video here.
