Wed, May 6, 2020 ~ Dancing Water Daily ~ Moon River Restorative Yoga: Make Space to Respond to Overwhelm

Stephen R. Covey (author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People) said

Years ago, as I was wandering between the stacks of books at a university library, I chanced to open a book in which I encountered one of the most powerful, significant ideas I’ve ever come across. The essence of it was this:
“Between stimulus and response, there is a space.
In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
That idea hit me with incredible force. In the following days, I reflected on it again and again.*

Pausing in the space between what is happening and how we respond is the practice of growth and freedom. Overwhelm is a reaction, a reflex, but we have the opportunity to choose our response.

Restorative yoga is a chance to be in that space between stimulus and response. Today’s Dancing Water Daily is a series of poses that open the back, side and front of the body. They are simple and anyBODY can do them with a few props from around the house. Find the video here.

Props for the Practice:
~ yoga mat * carpeted floor * blanket
~ 2 bath towels
~ 2 pillows
~ 1 soft blanket
~ eye covering
~ tea or water
~ cat, optional

* I thought that this quote was from Viktor Frankl, Austian neuroscientist and Holocaust survivor (and that’s what I say in the video), but my subsequent research shows that not to be the case and that it is unclear who said it!

Help me to continue to create Dancing Water Daily practices! No matter how far apart we are physically, we are all connected. The path that we all move along together is held by an Invisible Net of Love that is always there even if we can’t see it. The Dancing Water Daily practices is my thread in that net. Please support my work by offering a donation so I can keep creating these practices for you. With your generous support, I can continue to invest in making these classes available to anyone who can benefit. Please click here to be part of the Dancing Water Daily Net of Love. And please “Send to a Friend” to avoid PayPal fees! Suggested donation: $5 a class or $15 a week ~ and truly, any amount helps enormously.

THIS WEEK! Make a Donation ~ Get a Free Book!

A special heartfelt thank you to all who have offered financial support toward the continued creation of these practices. Your generosity makes classes available to even more people and that is a huge gift. I am deeply grateful.

This week, get a gift of gratitude: when you make a Dancing Water Daily donation of $10 or more, I will send you (or whoever you like) one of my books, Buddha Cat: Learning Presence, Awareness & Self Care from a Teacher Who Sometimes Barfs on the Bed or Octabusy: How To Let Go in a Sea of Doing. I can’t wait to put one in the mail for you!

Thank You Gift for Helping our Community Grow!

Shout outs to this week’s generous donors Susan Snyder and Lynn Pribus! A thousand thanks, friends! Together we can extend this Net of Love to reach everyone who needs it.

AND if, like me, your finances are akimbo, I get it. Another way to help is to share these video practices. Send a link to a friend! Post it on social media! Help spread the word about nourishing movement and moving together apart.
