Today’s class is a Dharma Dance Do Over Do Over! Last week, as I was still understanding the copyright restrictions on YouTube, my first two recordings of this class were blocked. So I reworked the class with new music annnnd here is the Do Over Do Over!
Dharma Dance is a movement experience I created that combines guided and unguided movement with the idea of breaking habit and ingrained pattern to reveal our unique presence, true nature and clearest insight.
This true nature is what yogis call dharma. The sensation of living in alignment of our dharma is one of aliveness and flow state that is engrossing, fascinating and timeless. While all of us have at least had a few experiences of the aliveness of living our dharma, the intent of Dharma Dance is to explore how we can train ourselves to recognize the experience of flow and seek it out and sustain the sensation.
Today’s class, which you can find here, is in two parts: Body as Student and Body as Teacher.
Body as Student
The first half, Body as Student, is guided, choreographed movement designed to invite movement that breaks our conditioned patterns and burn new neural pathways that open more movement possibilities. Feelings of awkwardness or confusion (you’ll see me have those experiences while I’m teaching!) are totally normal and part of the process of releasing habit! It’s not about doing it right, it’s about finding new ways of doing it.
Body as Teacher
The second half, Body as Teacher, is when we think less and feel more, let the body lead and get out of our own way. I invite you to move to each of the songs with a different focus:
• the first song (Ready for Freddy) with an emphasis on your soft tissue, muscles, organs and fluid movement,
• the second (All I Can Do Is This) focused on bones and angular, rhythmic patterns,
• the third (Bloody Tears) move with energy, imagination, emotion and expression, as if you were the firings of your brain and nervous system (this one might be a little messy and that’s ok),
• the fourth song (Hypnothis) focus on air, lightness and space,
• the fifth (Simmering), play with gravity, up & down and ultimately grounding on the floor,
• and the sixth (There Are Many Different Kinds of Love) rest in stillness and let all the movement integrate.
My hope is that the combination of the two reveals new ways of showing up, connecting body and mind and being precious you.

In order to solve the music copyright issues on YouTube, to address the issues with internet streaming and the fact that not everybody is on Facebook (and in the interest of simplicity!), at 9am every day I will post a recorded practice. This will allow people to access classes whenever they can do them, whether they are Facebookers or not and will be less stressful to produce.
