Music & Other Gems Sep 4-7, 2017 – Same but Different

Change is happening all the time. When something I love changes, I tend to throw up all kinds of resistance and anger. Nostalgia may seem like a sweet longing for what was but the root of the word “nostalgia” are the two Greek words for “homecoming” and “pain.” Nostalgia is suffering. Whether what is changing is a child or my body or my city, my intention is to notice my nostalgia and choose curiosity and inquiry instead.

CHARLOTTESVILLE WHITE BELT TRAINING this weekend and next weekend
Our friend, mentor and Nia Trainer, Helen Terry is coming to Charlottesville to offer a White Belt training! White Belt is the first level of Nia training, designed to provide body-centered training to anyone interested in living better in a body or teaching Nia. Helen is a First Generation Nia Trainer, chosen years ago by the creators of Nia to be one of the first Nia trainers. She’ll be retiring soon, so don’t miss your chance to learn from this amazing teacher and trainer! In addition to the training, Helen will be offering classes open to the public at the Parish Hall of the Buck Mountain Episcopal Church in Earlysville (4133 Earlysville Road, Earlysville VA ~ the small white building just past the church). The schedule is

Nia Jam Harvey Fundraiser on Friday, September 15, 7-815pm at acac downtown
AND in addition to the public classes, Helen, Susan & Mary Linn will be doing a special Nia Jam Fundraiser for the Houston Nia Community impacted by the hurricane. Join us for a playful, soulful class on Friday, September 15, 7-815pm at acac downtown in the GE Room (upstairs). Please note that Mary Linn’s regular Friday evening class will be canceled due to this event. Please join us to raise some money and some love for our dancing friends in Texas. (403 Pathwork Way, Madison, Va. 22727). Tuesday September 19, 12 noon – 8:00 PM – Come for any or all of the day. Strengthen and ground in this ancient and universal seasonal ritual and remember the inner union and peace that underlie our outer dramas and conflicts.
Remembering our depth will help us weather the storms of Life that disturb the changing surface, but do not touch the eternal Center.

I’m glad to be part of this afternoon/evening celebration. I’ll be teaching the Love Warrior routine from 12:30-1:45pm and there are lots of other offerings to enjoy. The day will include:

A Day Away: a retreat for you

Moving to Heal Nia Training October 8-9 with Jule Aquirre
This training is designed for teachers and non-teachers and will be held on Sat and Sun, October 7 & 8 with trainer Jule Aquirre at the Tango Studio downtown. Designed with the unifying theme of healing, Moving to Heal (MTH) training provides you with the knowledge and skills to deliver and experience therapeutic benefits in a Nia class.
