Susan’s Playlists April 6 – 10, 2015 ~ When Did You Stop?

when did you stop kids dancing“In many shamanic societies, if you came to a shaman or medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask you one of four questions: When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop finding comfort in the sweet territory of silence?

“Where we stopped dancing, singing, being enchanted by stories, or finding comfort in silence is where we have experienced the loss of soul. Dancing, singing, storytelling, and silence are the four universal healing salves.” — Angeles Arrien, Cultural Anthropologist

Angeles Arrien’s wise and provocative quote provided the inspiration for our practice this week. She reminds us of the four universal salves for the constant human condition of healing. I invite you to inquire into your own healing (in all realms) to see how the Western approach may be helpful and how dancing, singing, storytelling and abiding in silence can also be powerfully restorative.

Below are all the playlists from the week. Go to Spotify and follow me at “susanmcculley” and you’ll find my public playlists there, too. As long as I’ve been writing this blog, I’ve wanted to give you instant access to the music we use in class. I’m experimenting with this site with the idea that you can just listen without searching or downloading! Some people are finding that a search on my name turns up my lists, others don’t. (It took me a couple of tries to find one of my yoga teachers.) If you’re having trouble, please let me know. I’d love to figure it out. Please note also that Spotify doesn’t have all the music I have, so sometimes I’ll put up a different version of a song or skip it all together. Please let me know if this is helpful and fun!

Before the playlists, some announce-y type things:

• There are just a few spots left for dance. sit. write. April 18, 845am-4pm at Buck Mountain Episcopal Church Parish Hall in Earlysville. 1. I’d love to hear your playlist. I’m a yoga and meditation teacher and am always looking for good music for my classes. Spotify doesn’t download for people who live outside of the US. I can use a site called Hola to get into the site but it’s not such a great option because it uses spyware. I use it anyway sometimes but prefer to limit access.
Any chance you can find a site to put your playlist that is an international site?
    Thanks.

    • Hello! Every week I post all my playlists so if Spotify doesn’t work for you, you can still find the music. Do you have suggestions for sites that work internationally? Thanks for reading and for asking!
