Susan’s Playlists Sept 16 – 19, 2013: Spine Divine

spine divine inside bodyFirst, some gratitude:
• many thanks to Diane Goodbar for sharing her amazing Nia story as part of our focus this week. Over and over, I’m inspired by the power of practicing mindful movement to help us move toward happier and healthier lives. Thanks for sharing yours, Diane. And hey, does anyone else have a story about how what we do in class helped you outside of class? I’d so love to hear it ~ please email me at sjmnia@gmail.com
• many thanks to acac for supporting the Nia program since 2000! We are extraordinarily lucky to be part of a club where excellence is the norm. I love teaching in our wonderful studios.
• And of course, so many thanks to everybody who participates in classes and on this blog every week. Thank you for showing up, practicing together, asking questions, and engaging. You are my inspiration every day.

Second, some experiential anatomy. Our focus this week, on the top and bottom of the spine is the first in my mini-series of experiential anatomy foci. Knowing not just what parts of the body are called, but understanding their design and function, and having an image and experience to connect with them, can help us move with more ease and efficiency, heal more quickly, and make supportive choices about how we use our bodies. It’s good stuff, for sure. One of my favorite experiential anatomy books is Body Stories. Check it out. It’s beautiful and fascinating.

Third, I’m all a-tingle about announcing our Life As An Artist retreat on March 28-30, 2014! Especially if you don’t think of yourself as an artist (or if you do!), this is the weekend for you, to deepen your practice, connect with super-cool people, learn powerful stuff, and, oh yeah, have a ton of fun. Register before October 10 and get the lowest price (or register with a friend and get that low price until January 2)! See more at http://www.tinyurl.com/LifeAsArtist

Below are the playlists for this week (they aren’t live – yet – just the information to find the music we danced to). EnJOY!

Have fun. Dance on.
