Monthly Archives: December 2011

This morning in Nia, we let go of 2011 and stepped into 2012 by moving to ChakraDancer, the lovely routine created by Debbie Rosas several years ago.  Our focus was to invite in our intent for the new year and allow ourselves to let go of anything we no longer need.   As someone who quickly gets into her head, the meditative movement (although energetic ~ I was a sweaty thing by the end) and pulsing music helps me stay grounded and relaxed.  There is something peaceful about being in a room of moving, breathing bodies without all the talk.

The music Debbie chose for this routine is remarkable in that it is literally tuned to our energy centers. Simply listening to the ChakraDancer CD is a rich experience as the vibrations of sound move through each chakra.  I highly recommend the music, ChakraDancer by Brainscapes.

When I teach this silent routine, I use one word to indicate that movements will change.  This morning, I used the word OPEN (my word for 2011) and each time I said it, I loved the reminder to allow each movement into my body!  For the first few songs, my monkey mind was a deafening chorus of internal dialog!  After OPENing to the movement, gradually, my mind RELEASED (my word for 2012).  I love how both my words were there at the confluence of the changing year.

During class, some of us wrote our intents/releases onto paper that Frank and I will ignite in our fire tonight at midnight (or 1030…whenever we go to bed!). If you like, do this for yourself:  literally or symbolically make your intention and then set it free.  I love the idea of RELEASEing everybody’s intention as I step into a year with my new little word.

And I would love to know what your word is for ’12.

Happy New Year, everyBody!
